Browns plan for Shedeur Sanders to take about 50 snaps vs. Panthers

https://ift.tt/1NyAnXp Shedeur Sanders will have an extended debut for his first preseason action on Friday night. Via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told the team's radio broadcast on Thursday that Sanders will play the majority of the contest against the Panthers. When it comes to a number of reps, Stefanski said it will translate to about “ 50 plays of game work , which I think will be great for him.” Tyler Huntley, who re-signed with the Browns this week, will likely relieve Sanders late in the game. For reference, the Ravens and Bengals each ran 60 total offensive plays in their respective Thursday exhibition matchups. Sanders, Huntley, and veteran Joe Flacco are the Browns’ only healthy quarterbacks at the moment. Cabot notes that if rookie Dillon Gabriel weren’t dealing with a hamstring issue, he would likely have started Friday’s contest against the Panthers and played the first half with Sanders taking the second half. Mike Vrabel described memory of Kliff Kingsbury in six words

https://ift.tt/1NyAnXp New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel had a hilarious joke when asked about Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. Vrabel and Kingsbury were teammates in 2003. The former NFL linebacker was in his third season with New England, while Kingsbury was drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round out of Texas Tech. The quarterback spent his rookie season on injured reserve, but he still got a ring from the team's win over the Carolina Panthers at Super Bowl XXXVIII. Vrabel and Kingsbury had a reunion of sorts when the offensive coach arrived in Foxborough for a joint training camp practice between the Commanders and Patriots on Wednesday. "He wasn't better than Tom Brady," Vrabel said, when asked what he remembered about Kingsbury as a player. What does Patriots HC Mike Vrabel remember about Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury as a player? Greg McElroy explains how USC could contend for a College Football Playoff spot

https://ift.tt/MSVs9LZ Lincoln Riley seems to be an easy punching bag for college football fans, as he’s disappointed a bit at USC over his tenure in Los Angeles. Greg McElroy believes more fruitful times are ahead though. Examining the Big Ten, McElroy is thinking that the Trojans have the potential to make a major leap in 2025. Due to a myriad of factors, they might not be as far out of contention for the College Football Playoff as many are being led to believe.  “It’s amazing to me how recency bias has affected the evaluation of what USC can do in the Big Ten,” McElroy stated , via his Always College Football show. “Remember, a few years back at USC, Lincoln Riley was one PAC-12 Championship Game away from making it to the College Football Playoff. Now, you look at the overall record, 26-14— just a 65% winning percentage.  “It’s not great so far, as far as wins and losses. But if you look circumstantially at some of the losses from last year, you might realize ma...

Paul Finebaum accuses poll voters of fabricating No. 1 Texas vs. No. 2 Ohio State matchup

https://ift.tt/XUMjuDO Paul Finebaum saw USA Today’s 2025 Preseason Coaches Top 25 Poll released Monday morning, a week before the Associated Press releases its own preseason poll. And like college football fans everywhere, the ESPN talking head’s immediate takeaway was to call out the “voters” involved in effectively manufacturing a rare 1 vs. 2 season-opener between top-ranked Texas and Ohio State . USA Today’s Preseason Coaches Poll gave the Longhorns the top overall spot ahead of Arch Manning ‘s much-anticipated debut as Texas’ new starting quarterback, with the reigning national champion Buckeyes sliding into the No. 2 spot despite losing much of the talent that helped it secure its first national title in a decade last season. Meanwhile, defending national semifinalist Penn State — which has what is arguably college football’s most talented roster — lands at No. 3 ahead of defending SEC champion Georgia , which beat the Longhorns twice last season before losing to Notre Da...

CBB Insider: ‘Duke is Duke’ again in ’25-’26

https://ift.tt/hLGutEV Duke once again had plenty of roster turnover from last year’s team that went 35-4 overall and returned to the Final Four. Still, for all their losses, the Blue Devils had enough returners and additions to again remain atop the ACC for ’25-’25. Jon Rothstein at CBS Sports previewed the Atlantic Coast Conference on ‘Inside College Basketball Now’ on Monday. That came with a main topic being that, until proven otherwise, Duke is still the league’s best team, going on to select them as his clear No. 1 team in the preseason in the ACC. “Duke is Duke,” said Rothstein. “What I’m saying is, Duke is obviously going to be the class of the league until Duke is not the class of the league.” Duke proved that again last year in what was their best season yet out of three under Jon Scheyer as the Blue Devils tied for their third-best record in school history, won both conference titles, and made it to the Final Four for the first time since Coach K.’s final season in ...

Bijan Robinson praises Washington great Michael Penix Jr. for stepping up as Falcons starter

https://ift.tt/GzxKITd Nathan Ray Seebeck - USA Today Sports Michael Penix Jr. made his mark as the Atlanta Falcons’ starting quarterback last season, and nobody noticed more than running back Bijan Robinson. The former Washington star earned high praise from Robinson for stepping into a leadership role and guiding the offense through a challenging rookie year. Robinson recently said on the Pivot Podcast that Penix’s readiness and poise stepped into the starting role last season really impressed him. “When Mike came in, it was like he was ready,” Robinson said. “I think what made him confident was that everyone around him was ready to go and playing really well.” Penix arrived in Atlanta with big expectations after he was selected in the first round after the team already committed a lot of money to veteran Kirk Cousins only a few months prior. Instead of shrinking under the pressure, he leaned into it. His calm decision-making and ability to rally teammates quickly earned the t...
