Three talking points ahead of Newcastle United vs Barcelona

https://ift.tt/ROBn0U8 Three talking points ahead of Newcastle United vs Barcelona After a thumping 6-0 win in their first home game of the season against Valencia, Barcelona return to action tomorrow evening, this time in the UEFA Champions League. Hansi Flick’s men are kicking off their campaign in the European event away from home, owing to delays in the reopening of the Spotify Camp Nou with all required permissions. And the trip to Newcastle, where they will play at St. James’ Park, will be a big challenge for Hansi Flick & co. So far this season, the English side has won only one of their four Premier League games, with two draws and a defeat in the other three outings. Their style of football, however, is a major threat to Barcelona’s dynamics and structure. Barça Universal brings you three talking points ahead of Newcastle United vs Barcelona. Back to square one, once again Barcelona’s form across all competitions last season led many to believe that the UEFA Cham...

Is Bayern Munich vs Chelsea on TV? Channel, kick-off time and how to watch Champions League clash

https://ift.tt/jR39YSb Chelsea will take their “world champion” status into Europe’s premier competition as they make their Champions League return against German goliaths Bayern Munich in the league phase. Enzo Maresca ’s side now make their first Champions League appearance in three seasons against Bayern, whose stadium hosted the competition’s final last season. Bayern reclaimed their place on the Bundesliga throne last term after Bayer Leverkusen briefly ended their reign of terror and will now be targeting another continental crown, with their most recent title win of 2020 marred by the behind-closed-doors measures imposed by the pandemic. Chivu: ‘Lautaro Martinez doubt, Inter problem is result, not performance’

https://ift.tt/LUkfFKc Chivu: ‘Lautaro Martinez doubt, Inter problem is result, not performance’ Cristian Chivu confirms Lautaro Martinez might not be able to play against Ajax in the Champions League, but the irritated coach insists Inter ‘problems are the results, not the performances.’ It kicks off at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam on Wednesday at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT). The big question going into this game is around captain Lautaro Martinez, who is struggling with a back injury following the 4-3 defeat to Juventus on Saturday evening. There are huge doubts as to whether the striker can even be on the bench, let alone in the starting XI, although he has a long history of pushing through pain to play anyway. “He did not train today due to a small problem, tomorrow we will evaluate if he will be at our disposal or not,” explained Chivu in his press conference. Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane ready to take on English rivals in Champions League

https://ift.tt/SwpIz0O Bayern Munich star Harry Kane cannot wait to hit the grass at the Allianz Arena to face off with Chelsea FC in the Champions League. “We back ourselves to beat any team at the Allianz Arena. It’s up to you [journalists] and fans to decide who are the favourites. We’re feeling very good right now. If we want to beat Chelsea, we have to perform at our peak. It will be a tough and great game. Chelsea did very well at the Club World Cup and right now in the Premier League,“ said Kane (as captured by @iMiaSanMia ). When asked about the statement made by Uli Hoeneß, Kane respectfully disagreed. “A club like Bayern always expects to win every competition. I wouldn’t say we’re underdogs, even though we’re playing against the best teams in Europe. Now begins a long journey, hopefully until May. I don’t want to look too far ahead. We want to be as high as possible in the league phase table. It all starts tomorrow,” Kane said. Harkening back to last season’s Champions...

Eagles coach calls out star player for being out of shape: ‘Both he and I have talked about that’

https://ift.tt/5x1sACw PHILADELPHIA — Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter is still not in his best form yet. After getting ejected before the first snap in Week 1 for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott , Carter made his season debut in Philadelphia’s Week 2 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. As one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL, Carter is expected to take over games, but that didn’t happen against the Chiefs. “He had some good rushes, but he needs to round into better shape,” Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said on Tuesday. “Both he and I have talked about that. He readily admits that. I think we’ll even get more (out of him). For everything that has gone on in his world, I thought he played pretty good.” Carter amassed two tackles and three quarterback hits, while playing 80% of the snaps. He has the talent to be more productive. Last year, Carter became an unstoppable force after ...

https://ift.tt/IZnjRL6 Man United loanee Harry Amass endures nightmare Sheffield Wednesday debut Manchester United star Harry Amass had a loan debut to forget as his side, Sheffield Wednesday, suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bristol City. Wednesday beaten by Bristol Bristol extended their superb start to the 2025/26 campaign with a dominant 3-0 win over Wednesday, who remain winless this term. The Robins took the lead just six minutes in, as Amass – who was making his bow for Wednesday – deflected Rob Dickie’s effort into the back of his own net. Things went from bad to worse for Wednesday as they conceded a second goal just 12 minutes later, as Emil Riis expertly converted a cross from Anis Mehmeti. Mehmeti would go on to get on the score sheet himself, ensuring Bristol went into the break with a commanding three-goal lead. Amass’ performance Beyond his own goal, Amass touched the ball 41 times and managed to find his teammates with 17 of the 24 passes he attempted (7...

Adam Silver gets heat for saying NBA 'a highlights-based sport' fans can see on Instagram, TikTok

https://ift.tt/Lh0wazM Adam Silver would like that phrasing back. Silver has faced criticism in recent days for a quote that came off as tone deaf to fans. When asked on Wednesday about the expense of being an NBA fan — from the cost of attending games to the need for fans to subscribe to multiple streaming services to watch all their team's games — the quote pulled out of Silver's answer was cold. "There's a huge amount of our content that people essentially consume for free. This is very much a highlights-based sport, so Instagram, TikTok, Twitter [now X]... YouTube, another example that is advertising based that consumers can consume," Silver said. Silver misses the mark in a couple of places in that clip. First, there's the "Hey fans, if you can't afford the streaming services just go to social media" vibe that is not what fans want to hear. Second, the NBA just secured a massive new television deal because of its value to streaming serv...

Why are NASCAR Next Gen cars so "freaking difficult“ to adjust to?

https://ift.tt/a9XG2jJ Motorsport photo A winner of 21 Cup races and current NASCAR analyst for USA Network and NBC, Jeff Burton took some time to speak with Motorsport.com about a myriad of topics. He touched on the playoff format, offering a passionate defense of the legitimacy of modern champions while expressing openness to suggested changes. We also discussed the longest walk in the NASCAR garage -- the one between the Xfinity/Truck garages and the Cup garage. The competition is simply at another level at the pinnacle of stock car racing, and with how different the Next Gen car is, the learning curve is steeper than it has ever been.  Jeff on  Harrison Burton's progress Burton's 24-year-old son Harrison learned that lesson first-hand, giving fans, pundits, and teams a reminder of how different each rung of the NASCAR ladder can be. After winning four Xfinity races in a single season, he made the jump to Cup with the Wood Brothers in 2022. After three seasons toget...

Saquon Barkley sends strong message to the Eagles’ upcoming opponents

https://ift.tt/Lh0wazM Since joining the Philadelphia Eagles , we've become so accustomed to Saquon Barkley breaking 60-yarders that we're almost confused when he doesn't. We begin asking questions like 'Is everything okay with Saquon?'. That's how good he has been. He has sometimes made us forget that every NFL team has NFL players on the roster. Week 1 evaporated as quickly as it arrived. Philadelphia survived its first test vs. the Dallas Cowboys . It was Jalen Hurts who would lead the Eagles in rushing yards and rushing TDs as he notched 62 yards and two trips to the end zone on 14 carries. Barkley collected 60 yards and a rushing TD on 18 totes, suitable for a meager 3.3 yards per carry, but no one should be disappointed or fearful. He'll more than make up for that as we journey through the regular season. It's common knowledge. Every team that lines up vs. Philadelphia will have stopping the running game as one of their key points of emphasis....

Jacksonville Jaguars Make Hard Pivot on Travis Hunter Two-Way Plans for Week 2

https://ift.tt/ZezQHP1 Doug Engle/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Doug Engle/Florida Times-Union / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images While the Jacksonville Jaguars planned to use Travis Hunter mostly as a wide receiver this season, it seems those plans for the two-way star have already changed after NFL Week 1. On Sunday morning, ESPN NFL expert Adam Schefter  reported that the Jaguars planned to use Hunter on offense and defense in Week 1. But it would be as an “every-down wide receiver and situational corner.” The news was the expected plan for quite some time despite the Heisman Trophy winner’s desire to be a starter on both sides of the ball. In the Jags’ Week 1 win over the Panthers, Hunter had a quiet day as he managed just 33 yards on six catches. While it wasn’t impressive, he still made an impact on offense. On the defensive side of the ball, he was only in the game for six snaps. But that is going to change in Week 2. Also Read: NFL Week 1...

It’s one of the best leagues in the world, more tactical and with more ball possession than the English one, but I played for Enzo Maresca, who has the same style, and that will help me. Ranieri? I haven’t spoken to him yet, but I will; he’s had some nice things to say about me.”  When asked specifically about who influenced him into the decision, he spoke of Chelsea boss Maresca. “Enzo Maresca.
