Former Stanford coach Troy Taylor sues ESPN for defamation

https://ift.tt/kB8YcaK Former Stanford coach Troy Taylor is taking aim at ESPN. According to Joe Davidson of the Sacramento Bee , via Sam Neumann of AwfulAnnouncing.com, Taylor has sued ESPN and reporter Xuan Thai regarding a March 2025 story that, as Taylor alleges, resulted in his termination. Taylor alleges that ESPN pushed a damaging narrative through false claims, and that ESPN had a goal of destroying Taylor's career. The original ESPN article focused on two internal investigations from 2023 and 2024 based on complaints from female employees that Taylor had bullied them. The civil complaint cites a later story from ESPN, which apparently undermined some of its prior reporting — in part by pointing out that multiple allegations were found to have no merit. ESPN has not retracted any of its reporting on Taylor. ESPN also declined comment on the matter to TheAthletic.com. If Taylor wants to prove defamation, he'll have a high bar. As a public figure, he must prove t...

Commanders QB Daniels finding connections with Samuel, receivers as McLaurin continues hold-in

https://ift.tt/kB8YcaK ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Commanders’ seventh training camp practice, all without hold-in wide receiver Terry McLaurin, occurred during another punishing wave of summer heat. The kind that can make a day feel much longer. Jayden Daniels did not appreciate a calendar reality check. “It’s only been a week?” the quarterback said. Washington’s fans know all about time moving slowly and the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year’s arrival last season allowed them to quickly re-engage. The Commanders' stunning 2024 season culminated in the franchise’s first NFC championship game appearance since the 1991 season. One fan brought a handmade sign to Thursday’s practice that summed up the mood shift across the fan base: “Thank you #5 Jayden for making it fun again to be a fan.” Expectations are high thanks to the electric playmaker. To stay in contention, Daniels needs to build chemistry with a revamped receiver group — especially since McLaurin has yet to pra...

Red Sox no longer considering trading former All-Star Game MVP

https://ift.tt/fIeYkCv After much recent speculation, the Boston Red Sox do not appear to be on the brink of trading a young outfielder who finished in the top 10 of American League MVP voting last season. WEEI baseball insider Rob Bradford recently reported that Jarren Duran is no longer on the trade block. "Multiple major league sources have said that the Red Sox are no longer entertaining the idea of trading Jarren Duran, which is an obvious step in the right direction in the eyes of this current clubhouse," Bradford wrote. Duran, 29, is part of a Red Sox logjam in the outfield, with four players vying for three spots. Roman Anthony, Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu are also considered everyday options in the outfield. Although Duran is the oldest of the four, he is under team control for the next three seasons. Duran's numbers are down from last season, when he finished eighth in the AL MVP voting and earned All-Star Game MVP. This season, he's hitting .25...

https://ift.tt/HD3xPQI Kings Predicted to Trade For Stanley Cup Champion originally appeared on Athlon Sports . The Los Angeles Kings have put together some very solid regular seasons in recent memory. However, once the playoffs come around, the team has faltered, losing in the first round. Los Angeles hasn't won a playoff series since they won the Stanley Cup back in 2014, and it has been a stain on the team for years. The organization has tried to add talent to the team, but it hasn't helped at different moments. Even this offseason, the Kings have been active, but they still could use more talent. Los Angeles has stayed diligent in its pursuit around the league, and it could lead them to look at the Pittsburgh Penguins as a potential trade partner. NHL writer Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report put together a list of landing spots for Penguins star Bryan Rust, with the Kings making the cut. https://ift.tt/VKDlhMX "I Just Started Laughing": Caitlin Clark Recalls Beating WNBA Veteran originally appeared on Athlon Sports . Even despite her struggles at times this WNBA season, it'd be hard to find any player who wouldn't love to have the shooting ability of Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark. The second-year guard out of Iowa has been named an all-star in both of her WNBA seasons and continues to cement herself as one of the most popular athletes in all of sports. While most fans and players dream of being able to get hot from deep like Clark, for her it just comes naturally. It is something she expounded on while appearing on "A Touch More" with Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe, expressing that all it takes is for her to hit two 3-pointers in a row, and she's feeling it. However, even though Clark set a franchise record for 3-pointers in a season as a rookie last year, even she can't help but laugh at herself sometimes. When talking to Bird...

https://ift.tt/zbj2fVs Jeff Lange / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Jeff Lange / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The Cleveland Browns have more quarterbacks than they will have game day spots in 2025. However, their absurd amount of depth may finally pay off if they try to take advantage of the Tennessee Titans after the unfortunate news they received on Monday. The Browns head into training camp with four healthy QBs — two were drafted in April — and multi-time Pro Bowler Deshaun Watson expected to return during the season. The team has put itself in a position where it will have to either cut some of those players before the regular season or make a trade with little leverage. Well, that might have changed this week. On Monday morning, the Tennessee Titans revealed that former starting QB Will Levis will undergo season-ending surgery on his shoulder. The news puts the Titans in a very bad situation in their QB room heading into the season. Rookie and No. 1 pick Cam W...
