World Cup 2026 qualifiers: Libya stuns Angola to claim third place in Group D
Libya pulled off a surprise by defeating Angola 1-0 this Thursday, September 4, at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda. Ezzeddine Al Mariami scored the only goal of the match in the 48th minute, allowing the Mediterranean Knights to leapfrog the Palancas Negras in the Group D standings.The Libyan squad delivered a true masterstroke on Angolan soil. After a goalless first half, Ezzeddine Al Mariami found the breakthrough just after the restart, securing all three points for his side.
With this crucial win, Libya climbs to third place in Group D with 11 points, overtaking Angola, who remain stuck at 7 points. Cape Verde holds on to the top spot with 16 points, followed by Cameroon with 12.
