During the NASCAR drivers meeting today, Bill Murray was in attendance as the Enjoy Illinois 300 Grand Marshal. Bubba Wallace had to call out fellow driver Noah Gragson after the actor introduced himself to all of the racers at the meeting.
It’s always awkward shaking someone’s hand whom you are supposed to know but don’t. That is even more awkward and embarrassing when that person happens to be one of the most famous human beings on the planet.
Bubba Wallace is doing what he has to do, snitching on Noah Gragson for his transgression. I mean…how do you not know BILL FREAKIN’ MURRAY!
“A lot of yall [sic] love [Noah Gragson], but homeboy had no idea who Bill F&$$k’n Murray was as he shook his hand… unacceptable,” Wallace wrote on X/Twitter.
Now look, I’m not the biggest pop culture guy in the world. There are many very famous people I couldn’t name or recognize out of a lineup. Bill Murray is kind of in another category, though. He’s almost an American Mythology more than he is a man.
Noah Gragson is one of the most popular drivers in NASCAR. He’s won the All-Star Fan Vote three years in a row. Good news is, Bill Murray probably didn’t know who he was either.
And for Bubba Wallace fans, is this a sign of good things to come? Bubba is on Twitter and cracking jokes. Seems like he’s laid back and ready to go for the second race of the NASCAR Playoffs.
Bubba Wallace ready for next playoff race, challenge
The track at Gateway is one where Bubba Wallace can make or break his run in the NASCAR Playoffs. We have seen Wallace and 23XI Racing have brake rotor issues at this track. The two very distinctive corners on the track make it hard on brakes.
In three starts at the track in the Cup Series, Wallace has a best finish of P21. If he runs his average finishing position, he’s going to be near the cutline at Bristol. That’s just how it is. There is a lot of room to fall from where Wallace is right now in points. If he does well, that’s an added bonus that he didn’t have in previous years. A top-10 would have him in a comfortable place at Bristol.
I think it is a good sign for Bubba Wallace if he is cracking jokes his close to the start time. Let’s see if this laid back attitude translates to he race. He needs to be laid back on those brakes or he could find himself with issues yet again.
