Right now, the Pittsburgh Steelers options at quarterback are limited. The team brought back Mason Rudolph after one year in Tennessee. The Steelers signed Skylar Thompson as a free agent and used a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft on former Ohio State quarterback Will Howard.
The Steelers also have veteran Aaron Rodgers out there in the ether waiting to make up his mind about his future. Rodgers keeps hinting at coming to the Steelers but nothing is certain. Oh, and there are also rumors that veteran Kirk Cousins, who is holding out of Atlanta Falcons OTAs might be a trade option.
Yep, that's a lot of unpack. Between now and the start of training camp, we have no idea what is going to happen. Our best guess is Rodgers rides in on a white stallion at some point and graces the Steelers with his presence. But if not, Pittsburgh could go in any number of directions. The coaches and front office have said all the right things about Rudolph but this feels more like window dressing and if Rodgers or Cousins end up on the team, Rudolph will quietly be relegated to backup duty like no one ever mentioned him as a starter.
But we want to know what Steeler Nation thinks should be the team's Week One starting quarterback. Vote in our poll on X.
Who do you want to be the Steelers Week 1 starter at quarterback

The heart of this whole argument is about whether or not any of these guys are talented enough to make the Steelers contenders. We would argue that even Rodgers and Cousins can't make this team good enough on offense to make a deep playoff push. If this is the case, there's no point in paying either of them.
