Darius Adams has decommitted from the UConn men’s basketball program, he announced on social media Saturday.

Adams, a four-star recruit ranked 29th in the Class of 2025 by ESPN, was one of three UConn commits who played in the McDonald’s All American game on April 1.

The 6-foot-5 guard from Manasquan, New Jersey, and La Lumiere (Indiana) originally chose UConn over Michigan State and Tennessee, but says his recruitment is now “wide open,” according to On3Sports. Head coach Dan Hurley and his staff added two experienced guards out of the transfer portal in Silas Demary Jr., from Georgia, and Malachi Smith, from Dayton, which likely affected what Adams’ role would’ve been as a freshman.

The Huskies also return Solo Ball, Jaylin Stewart, Jayden Ross and Tarris Reed Jr., and are waiting on Alex Karaban’s decision between returning or declaring for the NBA Draft.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to play the game I love. After much thought and prayer, I have decided to decommit from the University of Connecticut,” Adams wrote in his social media post. “I want to give a huge thank you to the UConn coaching staff and fans; your support has meant the world to me, and I truly appreciate all the love you’ve shown. This was not an easy decision, but I believe it’s the best step for me and my future. With that being said, my recruitment is officially back open, and I’m excited to see what the next chapter holds.”

Adams had three assists and grabbed four rebounds in the McDonald’s All American game but shot 0-for-3 from the field and turned the ball over four times. He is touted as one of the best shooters in the 2025 class and will be one of the highest-ranked incoming freshmen available.

UConn’s incoming freshman class now includes a pair of McDonald’s All Americans in five-star guard Braylon Mullins and four-star center Eric Reibe. Australian wing Jacob Furphy rounds out the class and is ranked No. 95 in the class by 247Sports.
