All in bloom: Wednesday's top 12 high school sports performances include a no-hitter

Springs ports are in full bloom. These 12 high school athletes ensured their teams started strong with a victory Wednesday.

See who stood out April 2:

Niko Andrews, AMSA boys lacrosse

He notched six points with three goals and three assists in a 10-5 win over St. Bernard's. Chace Lozano added two goals and an assist for the Eagles (1-1), and Hunter Hatstat contributed a goal and two assists.

Finn Bell, Wayland boys volleyball

He amassed 34 kills, 12 digs, four blocks and three aces in a 3-2 win over BC High. Zach O'Donnell distributed 48 assists with four kills and four aces for the Warriors (2-2) in the 25-15, 15-25, 25-11, 23-25, 15-13 win. Wayland's Mason Lee added 12 digs, seven kills and four aces.

Max Boehm, Wellesley baseball

He threw a shutout with eight strikeouts and just two hits in an 8-0 win over Milton. Cam Lynch doubled and drove in two runs for the Raiders (1-0, 1-0 Bay State Conference). Wellesley's Will Webster (three hits) and Jack O'Grady (two hits) had an RBI each.

Hopedale's Phoebe Carroll is annouced as a starter before facing Turners Falls in the D5 state semifinals on Wednesday June 12, 2024 in Worcester.

She went 4-for-5 with two triples, a double and three RBIs for the Blue Raiders in a 24-0 win over Whitinsville Christian in five innings. Hopedale's Kenzie Reynolds added five hits and two RBIs, while Layden MacDonald was 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Hopedale's Bella Federico, Delaney Vaillette and Maddie DiMaio each homered.

Preston Cote, Algonquin baseball

He struck out nine batters and walked just one in a no-hitter for the Titans, who beat St. Paul 12-0 in five innings to open the season. Algonquin's Cam Citro doubled twice and drove in a run, and Ethan Chan (RBI) and Thomas Boudreau each had two hits. Michael Chiocco had two RBI's for the Titans.

Kaelyn Faber & Isabel Walker, Hopkinton girls track & field

They won two individual events each, as the Hillers bested Westwood 86-50. Faber took first in the shot put and discus, while Walker was first in the 100-meter hurdles and triple jump. Hopkinton's Josie Hopkins won the 200 and was second in the 400 hurdles and shot put. Callie Owens won the 100 for the Hillers, Savannah Rivera took first in the javelin and Bella Walkiewicz was first in the high jump. Hopkinton's Clara Bransfield (long jump) and Elyse Srodawa (two-mile) also picked up event wins.

Bryce Kane, Westborough softball

She threw a one-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts in an 18-0 win over Worcester South. Rangers catcher Penny Desjardins launched a grand slam for Westborough (1-1).

She cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against Hudson's Sophie Charbonneau, as the Eagles picked up a road win 3-2. AMSA's No. 1 doubles team of Katina Gakis and Sameera Patnala took down Junie Brunelle and Emma Burney 6-2, 3-,6 6-4, and Tiffany Staley and Reva Nelakantam beat Sara Rodriguez and Maliyah Daniels 7-6(6), 6-2. Hudson's Vivian Weatherbee earned a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Stella Damoulakis at No. 2 singles, and Sophia Bater won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3 singles against Riddhima Bora.

Hudson High School baseball junior captain Anthony Moura was the opening day pitcher against Shepherd Hill, April 2, 2025.

He struck out eight and didn't allow a run over six innings in a 2-0 win over Shepherd Hill. Jake Attaway picked up the save with two strikeouts in one inning of relief for Hudson (1-0, 1-0 Mid-Wach C), while Toby Edie and Joe Farrell each scored a run.

Jack O'Connor, Franklin boys lacrosse

He put in our goals in a 19-1 win over Oliver Ames. Tom Quinn and Nate Walsh each connected on a hat trick for the Panthers (1-0).

Patrick O'Neill, Tri-County boys track & field

He earned three event wins in the Cougars' 108.5-27.5 win over Bristol-Plymouth. O'Neill was first in the 110-meter hurdles (16.5 seconds), 400 hurdles (1;)5) and triple jump (37 feet, five inches).

Mateus Silva, Keefe Tech boy volleyball

He slammed down 21 kills with four blocks in a 3-1 win over Algonquin. Omar Figueroa dished out 20 assists for the Broncos (2-1) in the 25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 25-19 victory, and Owen Shea contributed eight kills and three blocks.

KING PHILIP 4, Franklin 3: Patrick Luizzi had a two-run single, while Sean Connelly added a hit and an RBI and scored a run for the Panthers. Franklin pitcher Zach Winer struck out eight over 5 1/3 innings, allowing just seven hits and two earned runs in the no-decision.

HOLLISTON 5, Norwood 2: Evan Engel was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and earned the win on the mound, throwing four innings and allowing just two earned runs for the Panthers. Holliston's Ty Bosselman (RBI) and Ben Maiorano (two runs, two stolen bases) each went 2-for-3, while Jaden Hayes scored two runs.

HOPKINTON 10, Ashland 1: Dylan Ruff had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs for the Hillers. Hopkinton's Mitch Simulis (double) and Michael Sullivan had two RBIs each.

MEDWAY 10, Bellingham 9: Aidan Tkowski was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for the Mustangs (2-0). He also scored two runs and earned the save on the mound.

BAY PATH 17, Blackstone Valley Tech 6: Jack Marino homered with three RBIs on a 2-for-5 day for the Beavers (0-2, 0-1 Colonial). BVT's Luke Charron had two RBIs, and Alex Vosburgh singled twice.

NIPMUC 4, Littleton 1: Sean Burchard had a homer, Johnny Desmond singled and doubled and Joshua Giancola struck out eight in three innings of relief for the Warriors (1-0).

MILLIS 2, Dover-Sherborn 1 (8): Andrew Morse drove in the winning run in extra innings after pitching a scoreless top of the eighth. Brody Barrett had eight strikeouts and allowed just four hits on the mound for Millis.

BAY PATH 15, Blackstone Valley Tech 3: Payton Smith had tow RBIs for the Beavers (0-2, 0-1 Colonial).

GROTON-DUNSTABLE 12, Marlborough 11: Kaitlyn Cabral was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Panthers (0-2, 0-1 Mid-Wach B). Marlborough's Shauna Bopp (RBI), Tayler Alarie, Maddie Demps and Rebecca DeSouza each had two hits.

MEDWAY 8, Bellingham 6: Alessandra Cautilli had two hits, including an RBI double for the Mustangs (2-0). Medway's Gracie Delucia added two RBIs.

WESTBOROUGH 5, Nashoba 0: Freshman Vikram Hiranandani picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Misha Borenstein at No. 1 singles, while sophomore Zach Forjette defeated Anderson Takle 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles for the Rangers. Westborough's Jorge Garcia Gonzales (No. 3 singles) swept Pyxl Hartvigsen 6-0, 6-0. Westborough's No. 1 doubles team of Jordan Hlawek and Subash Pallothu bested Miguel Abreu and Alex Dow 6-0, 6-0

HOPKINTON 5, Ashland 0: Max Sendele (No. 1 singles), Joe Krattenmayer (No. 2 singles) and Illian Glace (No. 3 singles) each picked up straight-set victories for the Hillers (3-0, 2-0 Tri-Valley League).

HOPEDALE 3, Whitinsville Christian 2: Kate Fireseme keyed a Blue Raiders singles sweep with an 8-0 win over Charlotte DeFranisco at No. 2. Hopedale's Pia Obrador beat Alison Sim 8-2 at No. 1, and Madison Buttonow bested Mia Besong 8-6 at No. 3.

WESTBOROUGH 5, Nashoba 0: Sahasra Kommineni and Evelyn Wood-Dunfrey cruised 6-0, 6-0 against Emily Skaar and Audrey Rusell at No. 1 doubles, while the Rangers No. 2 pair Ella Glasgo and Ava Jacobs prevailed 8-2 over Allison Motimer and Ava Jacobs. Westborough No. 1 Gina Hajiseyedjavady beat Lily Robison 6-1, 6-3, and Diya Bhattacharya won 6-1, 6-0 against Saide Gorr. At No. 3 singles, Rachel Dubrovsky beat Evy Doherty 8-0.

MARLBOROUGH 3, Leominster 2: Chloe Zinzola powered the Panthers (1-0, 1-0 Mid-Wach B). with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Eduarda Silva at No. 1 singles. Marlborough's Ada Zheng bested Lydia Krans 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 3 singles, and the Panthers No. 1 doubles pair Lilly Murphy and Juliana Aristizabal-Grisales won 6-2, 6-1 against Maggie Leighton and Amelia Shultz.

BROMFIELD 3, Algonquin 2:The Titans (1-1, 0-1 Mid-Wach A) won both doubles matches. Sophia Kopstein and Becca White beat Cassie Fisher and Nina Iverson 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at No. 1, and Tiara Ramesh and Altea Mehillaj gutted out a 6-5, 6-7 (4-7), 10-8 win at No. 2.

WELLESLEY 5, Newton North 0: Sari Hart and Mia Chung prevailed 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 at No. 1 doubles for the Raiders (1-0).

HOLLISTON 5, Norwood 0: Caroline Cosgrove won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles for the Panthers (1-0).

NASHOBA 95, Marlborough 41: Dane Garson won both the shot put (35 feet, 1 inch) and discus (110-6) for the Panthers (0-1). Marlborough's Andrew Naim was first in the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 15.3 seconds).

HOPKINTON 97, Westwood 39: Harry Millar won the 400-meter hurdles and long jump for the Hillers (1-0, 1-0 TVL), while Ryan Morin took first in the shot put and discus. Hopkinton's Iago Ferreira (100), Stephen (mile), Jack Knutson (400m), Jacob Logan (110 hurdles), Sean Finnegan (800m), Ian Weilding (200m), Evan Fitzpatrick (javelin), Logan Sullivan (high jump) and Daniel Jun (triple jump) picked up an event win.

WESTBOROUGH 80, Algonquin 60: Joe Samara threw the discus 133-2 and the shot put for the Rangers (1-0). Jonah Gould clocked a 9:55 in the two-mile for the Titans (0-1).

TRI-COUNTY 85, Bristol-Plymouth 48: Abby Dalton won the 100-meter hurdles (19.28) and long jump (14-8).

Boys volleyball

ASSABET VALLEY 3, Worcester Tech 0: Gabriel Lemes had 14 kills, and Joey Slater distributed 14 assists for Assabet (1-1, 1-0 Colonial). Assabet's Caio Morales added nine assists and two aces in the 25-11, 25-10, 25-22 win.

MARLBOROUGH 3, Lincoln-Sudbury 0: Calebe Perreira pushed out 22 assists for the Panthers (3-0). Marlborough's Declan McCarthy put down eight kills in the 25-20, 25-15, 25-19 win.
