Andy Murray walloped by Milos Raonic to end comeback win streak

https://ift.tt/eA8V8J

If you were working solely on statistics, you might have backed Andy Murray to beat Milos Raonic last night. Not only had Murray won his past eight official matches – a streak that extended over a 10-month period – but he had also beaten Raonic in their past eight meetings. Both those sequences were comprehensively squashed, however, as Raonic handed out a 6-2, 6-2 shellacking at the Western and Southern Open in New York. Even a torrential thunderstorm in the middle of the match did not knock him out of his punishing rhythm. Murray had been forced to dig deep into his physical reserves during a tense three-setter against Alexander Zverev on Monday night. In all probability, that played a role in his slow start. He opened with a double-fault, and could not find any timing on his groundstrokes from the back of the court. What didn’t help was that Raonic was serving absolute bombs – his first serve averaged 140mph during the opening set – while also going for maximum power on almost every groundstroke. This is the best way to play Murray. He likes to assemble rallies incrementally as if they were jigsaw puzzles. So the canny ploy is to create a staccato feel to the match, taking the racket out of his hand with a death-or-glory approach. Last night, Raonic kept coming up with glory.

Eagles coach calls out star player for being out of shape: ‘Both he and I have talked about that’

https://ift.tt/5x1sACw PHILADELPHIA — Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter is still not in his best form yet. After getting ejected before the first snap in Week 1 for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott , Carter made his season debut in Philadelphia’s Week 2 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. As one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL, Carter is expected to take over games, but that didn’t happen against the Chiefs. “He had some good rushes, but he needs to round into better shape,” Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said on Tuesday. “Both he and I have talked about that. He readily admits that. I think we’ll even get more (out of him). For everything that has gone on in his world, I thought he played pretty good.” Carter amassed two tackles and three quarterback hits, while playing 80% of the snaps. He has the talent to be more productive. Last year, Carter became an unstoppable force after ...

Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane ready to take on English rivals in Champions League

https://ift.tt/SwpIz0O Bayern Munich star Harry Kane cannot wait to hit the grass at the Allianz Arena to face off with Chelsea FC in the Champions League. “We back ourselves to beat any team at the Allianz Arena. It’s up to you [journalists] and fans to decide who are the favourites. We’re feeling very good right now. If we want to beat Chelsea, we have to perform at our peak. It will be a tough and great game. Chelsea did very well at the Club World Cup and right now in the Premier League,“ said Kane (as captured by @iMiaSanMia ). When asked about the statement made by Uli Hoeneß, Kane respectfully disagreed. “A club like Bayern always expects to win every competition. I wouldn’t say we’re underdogs, even though we’re playing against the best teams in Europe. Now begins a long journey, hopefully until May. I don’t want to look too far ahead. We want to be as high as possible in the league phase table. It all starts tomorrow,” Kane said. Harkening back to last season’s Champions...
